Note from Ashley: This ornament project by our contributor Jessica Rebelo is such a fun and different idea for the holidays. I think they're so pretty that they can be used year-round. It would also be easy to customize them as a gift for someone on your list. If you make some, be sure to share the results with us!
I can’t believe Christmas is around the corner, just the perfect time to start thinking about some home decoration. For this year I want to keep things simple and get away from the red, white and green, why not use any other colours? For a while I wanted to make a project using wooden beads and this was a good opportunity for it, they are affordable, look great and are versatile.
This a very simple project perfect for a last minute present, you can hang them in your tree or around the house. Hope you have fun making these!
Materials:
Medium/big size Wooden beads
Acrylic colourful paints
Brushes
Scissors
Scraps of fabric
Baker twine (or another thin cord)
Big needle
Step by step:
2) It’s time to paint! I chose a neutral palette (Coral, gold and dark blue) for the beads to contrast the colourful fabric tassels.
3) Using a small brush paint the uncovered part of the beads.
4) Once the paint is dry, remove the tape very carefully.
5) Using the back of a brush add some extra details around the beads with a contrasting colour.
6) For the tassels, cut 5 thin strings of colourful fabric. I use scraps from previous projects.
7) Group them together and place some baker twine (around 30cm) in the middle.
8) Save one string to tie all of them around with a double knot.
9) Using a big needle insert the twine through the hole in the bead and tie with a knot.
Your wooden beads are ready to be decorate xmas tree or to give as a present for friends and family. Nothing is more special than give something you made yourself. Enjoy!
