With spring just around the corner, this project felt fitting to share with you today. This is a paper cut rain cloud that can be used as wall art, or done on a smaller scale and turned into a note card for baby showers, bridal showers, April birthdays, etc.
Materials
- card stock - any color - 5.5" x 8"
- aluminum foil
- craft knife
- pencil
- eraser
- glue stick/pen
- cutting mat
- paper trimmer (optional)
Directions
1. Start by trimming your foil and card stock to size. Cut your foil to be just smaller than the card stock on all sides. I am working with a card that will measure 5.5" x 4" when folded, so I cut my foil to 3 7/8" x 5 3/8".
2. Free-hand draw a cloud and rain droplets. Draw as many rain drops as you like - you'll see below that I've done one with 10 rain drops, and another with just three - it's up to your personal taste!
3. Use your craft knife to follow your sketch and cut out the cloud and rain drops.
4. Very lightly use an eraser to get rid of any leftover pencil marks. Alternatively, you can just turn your card over, and have the side you drew on become the inside of the card.
5. Using your glue pen or glue stick, create a border along all four edges of your foil.
Tip: don't make your glue too thick - when you apply it to the card stock, you don't want it to bleed outside the edge of the foil.
6. Gently apply the foil to the card stock over the rain cut-out, glue-side down. Let it sit for a moment, and then use your fingers to gently press and secure the foil to the card stock.
7. If making a card, let the glue dry for about 20 minutes before folding. If making wall art for framing, you can leave the paper cut as-is, or glue an additional layer of card stock to the back of the art to hide the foil.
As you can see below, the overall shape of the cloud, and the number rain drops doesn't really matter. Feel free to use your imagination, even if you don't think you're great at drawing.
Fits in perfectly for today. It's raining cats and dogs!
ReplyDeleteWe're going on our 5th straight day of rain here in Mid-Michigan, and next week looks the same - it's so gloomy!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful designs. I always appreciate this kind of creative work. I am also using paper shreds to make creative thing with that. I am looking for a good future in this area. I have bought a cheap Office Shredder from Needa shredder For this purpose. That is doing a good job.
